Great work Demon. Thanks for checking it out

I found some info about the band '70 Proof' that Jake jammed with. They are a 70's cover band based out of Seattle. They have a revolving group of musicians who play different gigs (members of the Presidents of the U.S.A. & Supersuckers).
I heard 'Purple Haze' on the radio and ...... it made the hairs on the back of my neck stood up

I thought the flickr photo owner was from Seattle, especially when I saw the pics from the Fremont Oktoberfest. I lived in Seattle for five years and the majority of my friends still live there.
I wonder if the flickr photo owner knows anyone in 70 Proof and if he went to Las Vegas just to see them play there or if they just got very very VERY lucky that they happened to be playing there WITH Jake.
Also - is it known where this gig was in LV? On/off strip? Regular bar? Casino bar? Just curious.

The photographer is friends with members of 70 Proof. One of them was celebrating a birthday. It was held in a little no name bar off the Strip. Seems Jake either knew someone in the band or someone from the bar and showed up to watch. After some crowd encouragement, Jake got up on stage and jammed playing riffs, lead and rhythm - brought a lot of energy to the music. No solos though. Seems Jake has had some hard times recently but is picking himself up. At one point he spoke about being in a car accident recently and laying in a ditch, looking up and thinking - "I've got to get back to doing something with my life". He doesn't have internet access but occasionally gets online at other people's houses. Was told that Jake seemed in good health though clearly had been through hard times and was a super nice, genuinely cool guy, who was flattered that someone wanted to talk listen to his stories.

First off, DemonAGoGo thank you for getting the info on Jake, that means the world to fans like me and everyone on this site. It sounds like maybe Jake is "righting the ship" so to speak, and that is a very good thing whether he ever plays again or not. Again, I hope I did not scare anyone with the "rig-talk" post, I have said and will continue to say many prayers for Jake and he is in my thoughts even when I'm not playing guitar, as I know he is everyone's here.Jake, if you happen to read this we are all with you in whatever you do, I owe you so much more than just "guitar influence stuff". And one more time, many thanks Demon.

The photographer has given me the ok with quoting his message to me about the night - so here you go:

"Some friends of mine rotate in and out of various Seattle bands and one of them (Andrew - the newest Presidents of the United States Guitarist) decided to have a 40th birthday party music Jam at some little bar off the strip in Vegas. I honestly can't remember the name of the place, but it was just a little no-name bar that they took over. About 20 musicians flew out from Seattle to play and somehow, Jake got word of it (not sure if he knew someone in the make-shift band or someone from the bar).

Of course, you can't have Jake E Lee in the crowd and then not get him onto the stage, so at the prodding of the band and the crowd, he obliged. I was pretty blown away just to be watching him play at this little bar, so I likely forgave some of his rusty playing. He jammed pretty good playing riffs, lead and Rhythm - brought a lot of energy to the music.

Unfortunately though, no amount of pushing or encouragement from the audience would get him to solo - which re-enforced the idea that he's perhaps a little rusty these days. I sensed he was not playing as well as the old days - but again, it was fun just to see him on the stage and he really didn't play long enough to know what he was capable of...

He definitely looked like he's been through tough times. In fact, we talked quite a bit over the course of the night (and over the course of several drinks) because, like you, I'm a huge fan. He alluded to the fact that he's been through tough times and that he's trying to pull things together. He mentioned drugs in passing and implied that he's off them - but who's to say for sure. At one point he spoke about being in a car accident recently and laying in a ditch, looking up and thinking - "I've got to get back to doing something with my life." My wife spent most of the night trying to pep-talk him back into getting back into the music scene - but drinks were pouring and that was starting to turn into typical bar talk. Still, I'd love to see him resurface.

He was extremely friendly. Unbelievably friendly. In fact, I'd heard mixed stories over the years about him not getting along with a lot of folks in the industry (Ratt, Dio, Ozzy, etc) but he was extremely nice. I also sensed he enjoyed talking to people that remembered him and wanted to hear his stories. It definitely made my night and I really liked hanging with him - both because I'm a big fan but also because he was genuinely a cool guy.
I think I mentioned I'd put the photos on flickr and that I had a blog but he said he didn't have Internet access… which was interesting. Mentioned that he gets online sometimes at other people's houses…

Anyway - not too much to the story - but that's it in a nutshell. Of course, I asked all kinds of questions about his days with RATT, Dio (one month as he puts it), Ozzy and Badlands). At one point I mentioned something about the song "Never" from Ultimate Sin. He couldn't place the song from just the title so he asked me to sing a few lines (I am no singer…). It was a bit of an out of body experience to be in a bar in Vegas singing an Ozzy song (badly) to Jake E Lee."

Thank you again, Demon, and please thank the photographer, too, for letting you share his story. It brought several tears to my eyes. I really, really hope Jake rediscovers his love of music and gets back into it. He's always struck me as someone who isn't very self-aware - meaning his focus is more internal and doesn't know (or care) what others perceive of him. I can see why he didn't fit in in the music industry which (still) is full of raging narcissists. I did see the "Where are They Now" bit on That Metal Show where Eddie Trunk said that Jake is the one he gets the most email about regarding that question. If he wants to come back, there is undoubtedly an audience for him - maybe a bigger one than he realizes.

Hope you can upload the video. I'm dying to see/hear it!

A knife in the heart would have felt better than those words in front of my face. My all-time fave song of his and he doesn't remember it. That sucks badly, as well as, knowing he has put himself through hell (more than likely) due to drugs :x . Like all here, I truly wish him a full recovery and lively future.

Thanks for posting the info, though. It actually answered a lot of our questions here.

Thanks Demon for posting the info and reaching out to Crapmonkey Travis. Thank You Travis sharing your story with us.

Just like everyone else, I hope Jake can pick himself up. I wish the loyal posters of this board can have an intervention with him to show him how special he really is. There are probably posters from every continent on this board. It's impressive that his music has touched people from every part of the world.

It is sad to read that Jake has had issues with drugs. I read some old interviews where he clearly advocated against using any drugs. I don't know why he would turn to them now.

Jake, if you do ever read this message, please take care of yourself. Even if you don't want to be in a band type of situation, I'm sure there are endless possibilities elsewhere in music, whether it be producing, session playing, music for tv or commercials, equipment designing and testing, etc.

You have a wealth of experience, talent and knowledge that you can put to good use. Many of us have not been blessed with such talent, you should cherish it.

This is my first message on this forum.

Thank you Demon for sharing info.
My heart bleeds for his tough time or his situation of car accident or taking drags....
I really hope he picks himself up, like everyone said.

I want to be of some help to Jake.
What can we do for him...???
