Amps: to Marshall or not to Marshall

Postby Fedaykin » Sun Mar 26, 2006 12:01 am

I know I may be in the minority here, but I do not think Marshalls are the ultimate in guitar amplification, having owned1

I play mainly 2 Marshal Jcm800's but I also use a Budda 30 watt head I got about a year ago as well as a hiwatt 103 I try to keep different sound and tones but I still love my Marshalls . recently I tryed a bad cat 40 watt combo that I have been thinking abot getting . as for Vox only the old ones will do!
the new ones they are making in China are a real let down you can still get a hand wired ac30 but it'll set yah back around 2300 and they dont make them any more all vox's are made in China now since Korg bought the company.
mesa makes a great head too the dual rec and the road kind and I like the steleto combo as well as the lone star they all have great tone . as for peavey the Jsx is the only new head from them that I would play as for old peaveys I love the VTM60 (later became the 5150) and the Mace heads the triple X is cool too but thats it.

Soldanos rock period but are very pricey new and old . Mike soldano is the man I wish I never sold mine LOL!!!! man I miss that thing they sound killer with a les paul.

Go to your local music store and play each amp until you've found the quality of the sound you are looking for. It's kind of like going to a big party (or something similar) and picking a girl. If your amp doesn't satisfy you, then go look for another one. The same goes with the girl, if she doesn't fit your "wants", then go look for another one.

Well, there's my amp advice. :D

Where can I find some pics of Jake's amps and pedals? I have a Marshall plexi and a Mesa DR and I like both.

On topic -You have to have at least one Marshall in your arsenal. I've got 4, a JCM 800 2210 (100W), a 1987X (plexi 50W) and 2 MG15DFX's for practice in stereo. :) Other amps, Fender's, Ampeg's, VHT, Roland and Mesa for other sounds.

thats tough because I have many Marshalls as well as vintage Voxs and some Peaveys ( VTM60's and a VTM Classic with built in phaser) and a dual rec as well as a few boutique amps like a Budda 30 watt head. I need all these amps for different tone ECT so its hard to stick to one Brand . but I use my mark 2 and my JCM 800 the most as well as my Bluesbreaker50 watt combo and my 50 1959 SLP head as well ,
