rockinrye wrote:What I likedabout Great White was Mark Kendall's sound . Yes Jack Russel sounds a little too much like Robert Plant , but the guitar player was awesome.

If you listen too the opening track on Hooked " Call It Rock % Roll during the opeing riff of the song you an planly hear Jack say " sound familar?"

One of the few Hard rock bands I am kickin myseld in the ass cuz I never saw them live.

I've got a cd they put out of Zepp covers called Great Zeppelin. It's not bad-I like Kendall's guitar playing, too. I always wondered what he looked like underneath those shades, since he never took them off.

I did find a website for him:

Man, I must be really missing something, here, because I've always thought the guitar player in that band sucked.

I never really got into Great White. I guess when you need a bunch of chicks ( Bobby Brown 8O ) in your video just so people will pay attention to your mediocre music its hard to be taken seriously. And come on dudes quit rippin on them Poison boys  35 million albums sold , Best of Poison =20 years of Rock #17 debut on the charts and a 20 year reunion tour that is selling some major tickets ( Chicks 8O ). I know musically they were not all that great but at least give em a little credit for being able to survive in a brutal music buisness.

Speaking of Poison, CC Deville got a nomination for "Worst Solo of all Time" in the latest Guitar Player magazine. Apparently the fretboard abomination is the solo spot from the live album. :D

Okay I'll bite :D....Not only does C.C. Deville have a stupid stage name, He's not anywhere near the caliber artist (note how I said "artist" as not to offend anyone who actually likes how C.C. plays) as Mark Kendall,....the whole band Poison is mediocre at best. Most evident is the fact that the songs are poppy, fluffy and just plain suck. Un-skinny bop?...Talk Dirty to me......Every Rose has it's Thorn? Those songs are as mediocre as any I've ever heard and I'm sure many on this board will agree.

The fact that they sold 35 million albums does not mean they are a good band OR good musicians. It just means that a whole bunch of teeny-bopper boys and girls spent their allowance on Poison records. Plain and simple. Sorta like The Monkees, the Osmonds, the DiFranco Family, Andy Gibb and many others before them. BTW, The Monkees also had great turnouts on their 30th reunion tour in the 90's.

Also,... thinking that Poison is representative of good 80's rock music is like saying that "That 70's Show" and polyester is representative of the 1970's as a whole. Nothing could be further from the truth.

This is fun isn't it! Disclaimer to follow.

Disclaimer: Just my sole opinion and sorry if I offended anybody. Harddriver instigated my rant. :) I'm normally very tolerant of other peoples views...but comparing a band that wrote some good tunes, like Great White, to a "Clown Band" like Poison is just ass.

Apparently you guys just dont get it. You know how hard it must have been for poor C.C. to play live with eyeliner dripping into his eyes or for Brett to sing with 2 pounds of lipstick on his little mouth. Or for Bobby Dall to play Bass with 2inch long Lee Press on nails. One time poor Bobby accidently threw one of his own Press On nails into the crowd thinking it was a pick. The whole show was stopped for and hour just so Bobby could find it. Or for Rikki Rocket to go on stage every night with a gay name like Riki Rocket. While i dont own one Poison CD i can still appreciate the effort it takes to go out and perform everynight knowing your not really all that good at what you do. Its kinda like being a porn star with a little Penis or a flatt chested Hooters girl ya know. They should rename their tour to this. POISON 20 Years of Clown Rock But Still Way More Popular and Way Richer Than Any Prog/Power Metal Band TOUR.

I don't think Poison is richer than Rush, Iron Maiden, or Dream Theater. I really don't think they are more popular either.

 If that's the case then Harddriver, then that should tell you a little something about how bad your music taste is and the music taste of most Amercians! Mr. Metal and I don't listen to ProgPower music because it's the flavor of the day, week, month, or year. We listen to it, because it takes true talent to play! \nn/ KILLING THE DRAGON.......AGAIN!!!!!!!!!

I was refering to the newer acts you guys mention on here all the time. And i always considered Rush and Maiden to be kick ass rock bands and not prog/power metal. As far as Dream Theater goes i never really got into them. And once again i WAS ONLY JOKING OK

I blame bands like Motley Crue, Poison, Bullet Boyz, Trixter and the like for killing metal. People got so tired of that shit, they started listening to Nirvana, Stone Temple Pilots, etc. Even the movie Rock Star took a jab at the excess of hair metal era at the end (main reason I didn't care for the movie). The fallout of the hairband collapse took every other metal band with it - almost. Bands that did not have to rely on MTV, radio, and teenage girls, like Slayer and Maiden, survived and still book huge arenas without air time.

Slayer and Children of Bodom are scheduled to play Reliant Stadium here in Houston. That is a huge football stadium. Angra sold out Sao Paulo to something like 30,000 fans. I know, I know....most Americans don't know who Angra is, but who cares?

In closing, I don't know what I find more enteraining in harddriver's posts regarding Poison. The fact that he defends them relentlessly while putting down other bands that are "prog/power metal nerds" or the fact that he relentlessly defends them while maintaining he is "not a Poison fan" and he "just likes to see people get mad about Poison". :D

Im serious dude people hate them for some reason. Ive never liked Poison but i do love the way people act when you bring them up in a conversation regarding music. Whats almost genious is the fact that they will not go away and are selling out venues across the country ( with Cinderella ) on their current tour. You know those guys are laughing their asses off all the way to the bank and i think its great. I will be seeing them twice on this tour ( 5th time total ) with my girlfriend and 5 of her friends and its a blast every time they put on a show with chicks , beer and pyro what more could you want. Once again im not a fan
