Weight lifting

Postby johnthebrucelee » Fri Jul 07, 2006 2:34 am

Hey I was wondering if anybody here lift some weights on their free time.
I barely started since I have nothing else to do during summer. Any tips or advice?

i get to lift weight at work :)

it's not the usual gym-kinda-lifting,
rather lifting logs and stuff like that :)

I go to the gym at least 3 times per week, but I'm not one of those heavy weight lifters. I lift enough weight to get a good workout in and to stay fit. I use to try to pile on the weight and gain a lot of muscle, but I came to the conclusion that's a good way to hurt yourself!

My best advice is to start out light and gradually build your weight up. Also, listen to some kick ass music while you're working out, because it makes it less boring! :-)

lower weight with a higher number of reps= cardiovascular benefit; smaller "build", tighter muscle build
higher amount of weight with as many reps as you can pull-off= larger "build" or more muscle mass

I used to lift weights....but those things are heavy.

Seriously though, yeah, I did when I was younger, but I haven't done that in a very long time. I got tired of the lifestyle and it really is a way of life because you have to eat a certain way at certain times, do certain exercises, do cardio, take supplements (if you decide not to do the steriods). It doesn't leave much time for anything else but work and exercise if you want to get down to less than 10% bodyfat. Unless you are a natural, and I sure as hell wasn't in the genetics department.
