What's he stomping on ?

Postby MetalHead » Thu Aug 24, 2006 7:23 am

I checked out the US Fest '83 vid with Jake & Ozzy
and found something interesting 8)

In Mr. Crowley, at the end of the 1st solo, there
is a longer sustaining note where Jake steps on a
pedal. I'm wondering ... what is this pedal? If there
are any changes in sound they must be very subtle
'cause I can't hear them. I'm thinking it could be a delay ... maybe ?

Jake had a Pete Cornish boost pedal he used for solos. The pedal you saw him stomping on may have been that one, only I'm not sure if he had it that early on.

yeah maybe ... but he's stomping it as he hits that long sustaining
note and stomps again when he interrupts it and finishes the solo.

Maybe someone knows how Jake's preferences are when switching pickups? I seen videos of him and he switches back and forth a lot when in Badlands (with Ozzy it was mostly only the bridge) and I was wondering how he sets his tone knobs so his set-up EQ can handle the change from bridge to neck.

On the Voodoo Highway album ber definitely uses the neck pick-up a whole lot more, i.e. Whisky Dust and Fire And Rain. On Dusk he also uses the neck on songs such a Walking Attitude.

...could it be a Maxon Chorus, there's a scene somewhere on that video showing his board from the side and it looks like a bright blue pedal with 2-3 knobs... weren't those Maxon's quiet popular back in those days? ...just a guess, cuz Jakey's tone hardly differs in that moment...
