Postby seatzie » Wed Jan 30, 2008 5:53 am

Picked this up on melodicrock.com

NEW STARSHIP AVAILABLE NOW ON ITUNES:
This message posted at the official Starship MySpace: "Get Out Again is now available on iTunes. Not yet sure on a video, we will let you know if we hear of one."
I was also sent the following update today: "In related news, Mickey Thomas is currently recording at The Tone Factory Studios with Aynsley Dunbar working on a new album set to feature Danny Miranda on bass and Jake E. Lee on guitars, set for release via Direct Music."

Interesting. I wouldn't initially think of a Micky Thomas project as one that would require a guitar player like Jake. I know Micky can rock like he did with Jefferson Starship, but I kind of pictured him as leaning more in the ballad/pop rock direction since that's where Starship was getting the most press toward the end of their heyday. (Songs like Sara, or poppy songs like We Built This City.)

So with Jake and Dunbar, you'd think Thomas is going for a strong rock solo recording.

Or Jake is going for a more melodic direction.
Aynsley played on Jake's last cd, Probably just helping out. I doubt it will go anywhere past the cd.

I agree with that... I don't picture this as an on-going project.

But when you have people like Dunbar and Jake, I also don't picture them playing a bunch of sappy songs in 4/4 time. Thomas could have gotten a bunch of no-name studio musicians for that.

I'm holding out hope that Thomas wants to rock a bit harder than he has in the recent past. He could be melodic and even commercial, but still have an edge that these guys can bring to the table.

Let's just say I'm curious about their direction and interested in hearing the final results.

No doubt

I'm just happy to see Jake's name connected with any kind of musical project.
Hope the wait isn't too long.

Cool, I knew Jake was working at the Tone Factory, but I didn't know on anything particular. Great news.

He's also reported to be working on stuff for another solo release for Shrapnel. ;)

I think Jake woke up one day and was like " Man i am one hell of a Axeman and i am better than about 99.9% of the guitarest out there so i guess il get off my ass and record some shit for my fans ". Mickey Thomas can sing and some more Solo stuff would be great. As long as they dont do a cover of the Starship classic  " We built this City " i think all should go well.

I hate being the constant cynic...but I gotta tell ya, I am thoroughly underwhelmed. Mickey Thomas? The only thing good off the top of my head was "Jane". Jake needs to be playing with younger guys, not older guys. What a lame sounding project.

Crap, at least he's playing.

Starship did have some very lame songs. But, they had a couple of good ones too. Too bad the good was a small percentage to the bad. Knee-deep in the hoopla, what the fuck was that about? I digress...

I think this will be an interesting effort. Mickey can belt it out, and the rest of the lineup is solid. With Jake on guitars, there is really no telling what direction it will ultimately take.

Can't wait to hear it.
