UFO Sighting in Texas

Postby mrmetal » Thu Jul 10, 2008 9:37 am

I am going to see the legendary UFO (minus Michael Schenker, replaced with Vinnie Moore) tonight at a club.

I will let you know all about it!

HeyMetal, that sounds like a hayell of a time, bud!! ( minus Michael Schenker) A-haah-haaah-haaah! I was reminded of Vinnie Moore's position as main ax slinger in UFO, while reading something in here the other day. I know it has been a pretty good while since he took the job, and I still have a hard time imagining him "holding down the fort," as they say. Hope you have a great time, and maybe snap some pics?

Pete Way is also no longer in UFO, right? Or did he rejoin?

According to the article I read Phil Mogg and Pete Way will both be there.

Hey, bud! Just making a poke at a funny! Takin' it easy is the way I'd prefer, for you. I'm only interested in finding out how Vinnie Moore, with his arpeggiated style, could pull off Michael Schenker's bare bones, gut stickin' riffs. No problemo. :?
I'm wondering what you, as a professional writer, think of my bombastic, eleventh grade ( circa '86) "writing" style. Ha-Haah-Haaaah!!! That's all right! It changes. :o  :)

Frethead, your style is very entertaining and I enjoy the hell out of it.

Vinnie was great. He played the solos as close to Schenker as he could, but he definatley added his own flair. He seemed to be holding back as to not overplay the songs.

On the Lights Out breakdown, he did go off and tear it up. At one point, Vinnie performed a series of decending Major 6 sweeps that was aurally, as well as visaully, stunning.

The coolest thing that happend that evening was after the show. When UFO tore down the stage, all the old rockers left for the evening (because they have to get up and work in the morning) and my brother I hung around to finish up a pitcher of beer we had bought.

In the span of about 20 minutes, the club was all of sudden filled with 20-something year-olds all looking young and flawless.

No sooner had we started laughing about this very bizarre turn of events; because we felt very out of place and very uncomfortable, we saw Phil Mogg walking around in a t-shirt, sweat pants, and donning a pair of flip-flops.

My brother and I had no choice but to laugh. Here was a rock legend, one of the best hard rock singers of his time, walking around in a Clear Lake area bar and no one was paying a bit of attention to the guy - nor had a clue who he was.

I walked up and shook his hand and we chatted shortly. Seems like a very nice chap.

Legendary hard rockers UFO have announced plans to begin work on their twentieth studio album, which should be out next year.

While no further more information is currently available, the band has just begun writing the material and plans to return to the studio in late 2008/early 2009 to start recording the new album.

UFO's latest CD, "The Monkey Puzzle", came out in September 2006 via SPV Records. The follow-up to 2004's "You Are Here" was recorded at Area 51 Studios with producer Tommy Newton, who also worked with the band on their prior album and who recorded the material for the band's "Showtime" live CD.
"Hello this is Robbin Crosby from RATT, and when you're in your car remember to buckle up for safety, ITS THE LAW!"
