Couple Questions about Jake Guitars for you guitar experts

Postby Alkeys » Wed Mar 01, 2006 3:46 pm

I saw that Jake's favorite guitar according to the FAQ on this site is a Jackson.

Did Jackson ever make a Jake model? Did Charvel?

So far I know ESP did, but the rest were butchered right? like kinda custom made? WEre you ever at one time able to buy an actually
Charvel produced Jake E. Lee model like the blue and purple burst ones or were those just custom made for him?

Thanks

I think the guitars by Jackson and Charvel just were one off (2 in Charvels case)

I'd say custom made.

The guitars were one-off's made by Jackson/Charvel as Metalhead put it. No "Signature" models were made by J/C.

I have a White Charvel Made By Mike Charvel ..Which supposedly was prototype of what was to be the Jake E Lee Model...However some legal problems prevented this happening!... I must say this is the info I was given when I bought the guitar nearly 3 years ago! the guitar does look excellent! with the bullet and the hard tail no plates at the back it sounds amazing too..it is very heavy though being solid bodied! if someone would host the pics i'll send them for scrutiny!
I did see a jake Model By fernandes with Jake E Lee model printed on the headstock!

again, if the Charvel is made in the early 80's
when Jake was at top ... no Charvels were made by either
Wayne or Mike Charvel.

No mass production..but a prototype..I find it hard to dispute..Supposedly made in 85/86 Charvel website states that many prototypes were made that never reached fruition nor have serial numbers...before buying my "Jake" I did loads of research..I even asked Jeff Here..he may remember!
The chap who sold it said he knew what it was and only Mike or Wayne could confirm it!... neither returned any answer
However I received an email telling me it would have been made by an employee as this happened regularly!
I love it !!!

Wayne sold Charvel in the late 70's :!:
How could he make Charvel guitars when
he didn't even own the company ? :P

First you say it was made by Mike charvel, then you relay this email?

Mike never worked for charvel guitars, only wayne guitars.

Employee projects did happen often. They dont comand the kind of money they should though since they were never logged in any book or have a serial number.I know a guy who has a killer jake e lee purpleburst made by an employee of charvel.Nice guitar for sure.

Again though, no charvel guitars were made by wayne or mike after 79-80.None.Grover jackson, time wilson, mike shannon ...ect were the guys making them then.Wayne tried his own company, went to work for gibson, then washburn.Thats how he spent the 80's.

The email was from another know all on the Jackson/Charvel forum ..obviously I took it with a pinch of salt..after all it's impossible to know everything..at least in the real world!...I put the name Mike Charvel to it as it is signed by Mike in the neck socket..I knew that Mike Charvel made guitars so I assumed it would be him...I don't profess to know everything..maybe I got carried away as I need to Justify buying what was then my 17th guitar! I even have a production paper stating that it's a prototype for Japanese Charvel of future production!

Wayne Charvel sold Charvel Guitars to Grover Jackson in the late
70's. Do your history :P

Is it signed "Mike" ?
I guess it could be Mike Shannon, who worked for Grover Jackson :!:

Also, in 1985, Mike Charvel was about 9 or 10 years old.
Mike Shannon, Mike Eldred..... Could be any of the Mikes.
