Fender Mex Strat...good for "Charvel/Fender" copy?

Postby Highwire » Fri Mar 10, 2006 5:49 pm

Hello all,
I was wondering if anybody ever tried making a Jake inspired axe using a Mex Strat? The idea of paying more than $200-$300 for a guitar I'm basically going to change everything on is a little nuts. I work in a used gear store, and some of the ones I've seen come through play as good (sometimes better) as some of the US ones. Just curious.

You're not the only whose doing this.. I have a Standard Strat that I'm going to modify from the nut, tuners, pickups, Jake pickguard (WARNING: You're going to have to cut some guitar wood for the neck pickup position on a HSS), and stuff like that.

I thought the current Mex Strats all have the "swimming pool" route instead of individual p-up slots. Is there enough clearance with that?
