Pyramaze are a primarily Danish band, now onto their second album, a plush and powerful progressive metal opus that is also a concept album. More aggressive than the Melancholy Beast debut, Legend Of The Bone Carver wells up with enthusiasm and jackhammers along, frosted with loads of melody from prominent keyboard and vocal sources. There’s a real Symphony X vibe to guitarist Michael Kammeyer’s rigid riffing, but like I say, he’s tempered and tamed by all sorts of melody, along with a grooving drum performance. Singing, by the way, is none other than Lance King, known for Balance Of Power and a whole lot more (too much?) - as well he’s label head o’er at Nightmare. Still, he’s the perfect wholly committed prog metalhead for such a musical maelstrom, this record matching King’s presence in brightness and forward-flung energy.

I'm looking forward to seening Mr. King front Pyramaze at this year's ProgPower! \nn/ I just wish that the band had a higher slot in order to play longer though. :-( The same goes for Vision Divine.
