Yep! It's pretty mind blowing but I have such a hard time finding tapes, I've browsed Ebay but they usually go for an insane price...something like $200 for a lot of 10 tapes.
Contact Dunlop. They still make tapes for the Echoplex. I'm not sure about price, but it's good to know they're still available. Echoplex's are awsome... but take a fair bit of maintenance to keep 'em going.
I read that buying tapes from Gibson is pretty much useless. An Echoplex user in the US said that their delivery time was so long he just cancelled his order and started making his own from blank 8 track cartridges. As I live overseas I wouldn't take the risk to deal with Gibson...
I think I'll go the DYI way too and yes, I do know about the maintenance part, mine needed a good cleaning when it arrived and I fixed some minor problems too.
These beasts just need to be taken care of.

You know what I've been told? I heard the company, Gibson, is full of jerks. A music store manger told me that and said Fender and Jackson are the most friendly companies to work with. Well, that doesn't mean Gibson makes crappy guitars! They're just too overpriced...
Hell yeah...I went back to tubes! MESA/BOOGIE style...my rig has never sounded better. Just need a decent noise gate to tame that beast and a set of EMGs.
