Second solo BATM live

Postby Demon_A_Go-Go » Mon Jan 16, 2006 7:26 am

Do you remember there was simillar topic from the old board ? User called Comander_Colby did fantastic work showing us the stretched climbing pattern for the second solo i can post it again if you're interested .During the BATM'84 and U.Sintour'86 Jake used to play very melodic bend notes and couple of alternate picking figures just before this stretched legato climbing, when the crowd shout haaaauuuuu.Does anyone have any idea about that extra solo ?

I'll give that first 3rd of the live outro solo another shot.

The notes in parentheses after a carrot are the notes you bend to, notes not in parenthesis after a carrot are hammer ons/pull offs.

e--18^(20)---18^(20)~~~~-----19^(21)---19----------------------
B-----------------------------------------------------20~~~~~~-------

e--17-19-17----17-------------------------------------------------------------------
B-------------20----20--19-20-19-17-19-17-18-17---17------------------
G-------------------------------------------------------19--19--17/19-17-16/17-16-14~

Tremolo pick this next part, hammering the note in parentheses once on the beat. The fingers I use to hammer are the middle (15) and the ring (17,19,21), so that might make it easier.
e---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
B---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
G-14(15)--14(17)--14(19)--14(21)--14(15)--14(17)--14(19)--14(21)--14(15)--14(17)--14(19)

e-------------------------------------------------------
B--18^(20)--18-18^(20)-19^(21)~~~~~----------
G-------------------------------------------------------
________________________________________________________

Then you play the other part I tabbed out.

Hope this is easy to read.

Welcome back Commander. Good post.

This is a small clip of a how I usually play the outro solo of Bark At The Moon. A friend of mine recorded this in the audience on a cheap recorder. Plus, I am not Jake, so keep that in mind too. :D

Hope this is easy to read. never found any tabs, but a few months ago I learned the entire thing they way he plays it on BATM live. I don't remember the first half of it, but the other half(which is on the recorded version as well) is played differently by Jake then in any of the tabs that I've seen. I'd stretch your fingers a bit before tackling this one...

B--13^12----13^12--13^12------13^12-13^12-----------
G----------14------------------14--------------------14------

B--15^12------15^12-15^12-----15^12-15^12-----------
G-----------12------------------12-------------------12------

B--17^13----17^13-17^13----17^13-17^13--------------
G----------10-----------------10------------------10---------

B--15^12----15^12-15^12----15^12-15^12--------------
G----------9-------------------9-------------------9----------- <-1st ending

The second ending should be available in the a power tab. Jake kinda climbs toward the end of his live solo, so if you keep in mind that he is stretching 7 frets during most of that section, then you can figure out how he does that climb. But the what I posted is pretty much what he does during the "familiar" part of the BATM outro, and it's really the only way to get the same phrasing that Jake does. Remember to palm mute this sucker!

I've found out more of it This is the climbing pattern!!

e--12^10------12^10-12^10-------12^10-12^10------
B------------12--------------------12---------------------12---

e--13^10-----13^10-13^10------13^10-13^10----------
B------------12-------------------12-------------------12-----

e--15^10------15^10-15^10------15^10-15^-10--------
B-------------12-------------------12---------------------12---

e--16^10-----16^10-16^10------16^10-16^10------------
B------------12-------------------12------------------12-------- <= First Ending

The second ending is a A# major pentatonic pattern up in the 15-18 frets. The live version ends on the 17th fret d string.

Eh, not bad for a self-taught 20 year old.

I have them mutant fingers.

I think it's worth posting that if you guys can track down a recording of the Rockpalast Metal Festival '83 performance, it does have many great close-ups of Jake's lead playing for "I Don't Know", "Mr. Crowley", "Bark At The Moon", and "Centre of Eternity". Specifically for BATM, he plays the outro solo with the same fingering as that old tab I did.

Ya Jake can streach his fingers pretty far and wide. I observed him very closely on the Ultimate Ozzy.

That kind?

Hehe, Jake sometimes even used his thumb for those far stretched chords, cool weird technique I think.

I'm still trying to find chords using that technique. Well, as we all know, chords come from scales... The Ultimate Ozzy live solo still dazzles me. Yeah, it's that Jake thing. :P
