Whitieeeee

Postby Gonzo » Wed Feb 07, 2007 2:58 pm

Thinking about having a whitie built after blueburst.

Should I go for it or save my dosh for a JCM800?

depends on what amp you have now, but I would go with
a JCM800 :D

Well atm I have a Laney VC30 212, Zakk Wylde OD, Boss GT8.

Thing is, I can't try a JCM800 because no one I know has one and there are none for sale locally.

Since you can't try a JCM800 and you're familiar with Laney, you might try a GH100L. There probably the closest amp on the market. Marshall does make a JCM 800 but it costs about $2000. The Laney runs around $1000 or less. That's all British tube tone for about half the cost. Are they exactly the same? No, but it's a pretty darn good tone. So good that my local store quit dealing in Marshall and went to Laney. It's a lot easier to sell something for half the price.

I like the look of the GH.

I read its like a JCM800 on steroids. I guess I could always sell on if its not right or what have you. I just need something with a heavier sound, my VC30 is good for light rock but not quite heavy enough for Ozzy etc.

Check out the new amp that George Lynch is endorsing. its a randall with a modular head. you buy different modules based on specific tones and place them in the head and switch between the different modules.
Pretty cool.

2. ESP JAKE E LEE Model made in 1995 purple.
3. Warmoth guitar made like Jake's w/ flame maple trans green.
4. Warmoth gutar look's just like Whiteeeee.

PEAVEY 5150 or a 6505 are the greatest amps

The "Lynch Box" is pretty sweet. It captures the Back for the Attack tone well. Solid choice for some vintage 80's.

A few q's about the GH.

1. Could I get a good Randy/Jake/Zakk tone with it? MXR Zakk OD, Boss CH-5 and a dunlop wah. Maybe a delay.

2. One has come up locally in good nick, what sort of money should I offer in ££ (GBP)?

1. Those guys are Marshall, but as it's a tube-amp I guess you could
land in the same ballpark soundwise.

2. Checkout eBay and get an estimate on what they're worth :)

Sorry it took me so long to reply, but I've been busy with twin 4 year olds and all.
As far as the GH100 goes, it can give you whatever tone you can get out of your fingers. I've made it do a VH type tone, and Ozzy type tone, Metallica, etc. etc. etc. It's a good tool to have. I just saw Paul Gilbert playing one Sunday night on the G3 tour. It was BAD ASS! But seriously though, the GH is a quality British amp. Sells new for about $1000 +/- in the US. Sorry dude, no idea what it sells for in the UK. If you buy one used, be careful. They used to come with 6L6's/5881's in the power amp section. Now they come stock with EL34's. For that more British sound. I've owned 2... a GH50 head and a GC50 2x12 combo. I wish I had one or both of them back. Hope this helps.
