Okay, so far I've counted about 15 people who expressed interest in an OD-1 clone. That's enough to justify a small run...maybe 20-25 pedals.

I'll do the cost analysis this week, Then I'll run it by Jake. :)

To keep the price down I'll probably be going with an "off the shelf" die cast MXR sized Hammond box rather than the steel Cat's-Eye box. Steel's better at shielding out unwanted RFI and is better for grounding purposes, but costs more. Also, we'll probably paint the box rather than powdercoat it. Again, because painting is a lot less expensive than powdercoating.

I'll keep this thread updated.

I do like the engage buttons of Boss pedals, I would say its such a strongpoint of their pedals. Theres no way you can have a footswitch like the boss?
When playing around the house, I don't have shoes on, and its just annoying to have to stomp on the thin switches

Well, everyone has personal preferences but I have to disagree about the switch being a strong point. The switch in a Boss pedal is the one component that fails most often under heavy use. The switch is a micro-switch that is mounted under the "treadle" that you step on. The treadle is actually a cool design and an very efficient way, IMO, to adapt a low cost push button switch for use in a foot pedal. It would be too costly to use the treadle design on a production run of less than 2000 units.

I can understand that.
(was the treadle bit that I was referring too)
Just a curiosity would it be possible at all to put a treadle over a normal switch? - not suggesting this for the Jake OD

Yeah, it's possible. but it depends on how handy you are at cutting and bending sheet metal and if the pedal has room inside for the pivots.

You could try bending a light piece of sheet metal into a "U" shape and attach it with 2 pivot points to the sides of the pedal enclosure. That will probably work but may wear out the switch prematurely because the switch would have to lift the treadle after each acctuation...The solution would be to place a spring under the treadle so that the treadle does not rest on the switch. Just like the Boss design, but primitive.

Back in the day meaning Badlands day? What kind of tone best describes the pedal? I never was a fan of the Boss OD because I thought they were kind of treblely sounding. I like some fat-end in my tone. Just curious...

Jake had a great tone with ozzy and with badlands in my honest opinion. However, i'd say you need a few more pedals to hit that Ozzy tone, you can hear flange etc as well, and its quite trebly in my opinion.

Yeah, Ozzy...Badlands. Back in the day, when he used Boss pedals. The Balands tone was drier than the Ozzy tone but I believe he was still using the Boss overdrive. I'll try to clear up what was so special about his OD-1 before I proceed....I mean, was it stock or modded.

Also, they're trebly sounding because the "tone" control is actually a "bass cut" circuit. That's why a lot of guys that use Tubescreamers, Od-1's, etc. leave the tone knob all the way CCW.

Late entry I know, but I'd be interested. I'm looking for a "secret" wepon to modify my MTS 3212 stock tone.

Although I'm not a musician but a "fan": I'm very much curious to see this "Jake E. Lee OD" reproduction gadget your speaking of, Dean. And also this pickguard so mentioned in another post message. Peace! :D

Hey Dean
I just wanted to add, if you build the Jake pedal, make it indestructible like a "RAT", but sound good, like a "Boss"

Please
