Who will win?
I am interested in knowing who you all believe will win the up coming USA election. I don't mean who do you want to win! I mean who do you think will win the 2008 election.
Re: Who will win?
It is to close to call now. They are virtually tied in the polls and it depends on who can get the most electoral college votes from each state.
This one is going to go down to the wire.
My pick: Obama because of the economy and recent finicial market meltdown on Wall Street.

At this point, bubbles, after having witnessed two of three scheduled presidential debates and one vice-presidential debate, the race is surely different than one may have imagined a year ago! This one is going to be neck and neck 'til the buzzer, but I'll say this. The U.S. is the frontline in the effort to intercede and supplement the world for the new millenium, and John MacCain is the candidate with the personal integrity, record of commitment in the service of U.S. citizens, military and political experience that I can place trust in to occupy the office of the President of the United States.

Doesn't matter who wins because the average American still loses.

A little boy goes to his dad and asks, "What is Politics?"
Dad says, "Well son, let me try to explain it this way: I'm the head of the family, so call me The President. Your mother is the administrator of the money, so we call her the Government. We're here to take care of your needs, so we'll call you the People. The nanny, we'll consider her the Working Class. And your baby brother, we'll call him the Future. Now think about that and see if it makes sense."
So the little boy goes off to bed thinking about what Dad has said. Later that night, he hears his baby brother crying, so he gets up to check on him. He finds that the baby has severely soiled his diaper. So the little boy goes to his parent's room and finds his mother sound asleep. Not wanting to wake her, he goes to the nanny's room and finds his Daddy in bed with the nanny. He gives up and goes back to bed.
The next morning, with everyone at the breakfast table, the little boy says to his father, "Dad, I think I understand the concept of politics now."
The father says, "Good, son, tell me in your own words what you think politics is all about."
The little boy replies, "The President is screwing the Working Class while the Government is sound asleep. The People are being ignored and the Future is in deep shit."
I think Rep are more likely to win due to economical climate, and from what I see from the other side of the pond, Hilary just seems more interested in backstabbing or badmouthing anyone.

Re: Who will win?
I say to you, become more than average! Disconnected is very uninteresting, JR, your statement is untrue in a multitude of ways, and there's plenty to be concerned with. For instance, B.O. is liberal, and as is to be expected, seeks to use the federal government to effect socialistic change ( Which is otherwise spoken of as "socialism." You may recall the "new order (ing)" as befell the German population during the German Government's transition from Authoritarian to a Militarian Dictatorship) , so that in the case you're homosexual, you can pretty well start to organize your wedding and stock up on oil, or kiss your ass goodbye. Could be pretty good, if you 're one of them, I guess.JR97 wrote:Doesn't matter who wins because the average American still loses.
However, I want to warn you. The last time a liberal lived on Pennsylvania Avenue, the U.S. Armed Forces were weakened and scattered, this fine country was sold out all the way across the board, and international respect for the United States of America and the office of President was shoveled into an all time low, which is a humility that we've suffered since. I ask that you also take note of how President George W. Bush's poll ratings were the highest that have been recorded, edging out his father - George H. W. Bush, after his response to the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. Similiar to the way John McCain has worked as a Democrat and a Republican during his political career, he was a Democrat until he began his run for President, George W. Bush has also posted the lowest ratings recorded. I don't know. That happens to be what I'm thinking at the moment. I hope that whets your appetite to improve your knowledge of politics. You'll have to work for more. There is plenty! I don't mean to single you out, and I hope I haven't "rubbed you the wrong way." By the way, JR, you know that B. O.'s MIDDLE name is Hussein, right? He's not Chrisitan, either. He's Moslem.
Everyone will love you, just as long as you are a shooting star.

Re: Who will win?
Honestly - I'm still undecided. I see both sides. BUT - after that last Town Hall meeting - geeez, it was so friggin' boring that I fell asleep at the beginning of it, but have it recorded to watch later.
What struck me the most was how feeble McCain seemed as he walked around! If he wins and something happens to him (god forbid) - does anyone REALLY want Palin running this country? I know I don't! That was a bad choice of running mate, IMO.
I'm pretty disheartened right now. I just saw my 401K TANK - I've lost so much money, and it's a real f*cking bummer. It's starting to look like our generation will be the one who DOESN'T get to retire! I know I'm not the only one. Regardless of who takes office, I think we all need to be prepared for HIGHER taxes - that's pretty much a given. Things will get worse before they get better - and it's not just here, it's global.

Re: Who will win?
Trust me. I am very connected, very interested, and very concerned. Just because I don't buy into the farse that is the two party system doesn't mean I don't care and don't do research. The whole liberal/conservative/democratic/republican game is just marketing. Like the song says... "it's all the same.. only the names have changed...".frethead wrote:I say to you, become more than average! And I will vote. Just not for either of those two.
Re: Who will win?
btw, frethand... I agree that Obama brings a lot of socialism. But almost every candidate since Woodrow Wilson has brought on more and more "social" aspects or enacted policies that led to social policies being the problem solver. Moreover, most of the "social" policies in this country and those being proposed now are more akin to corporate fascism than socialism. Look up the definitions and planks of fascism.
Presidential executive orders that enact policty without going through congress, congressional martial law that was enacted on the whole "bail out" package, the gov't and federal reserve (federal reserve is not the gov't) essentially buying up corporate america saving the rich and screwing the shrinking middle class. All of that crap is more than just McCain, Obama, Bush, Kerry, blah blah blah.
If you really want to get deep into the game, research the history of marketing and political campaigning. The Freudian roots of pychoanalysts and the original PR firms and their ventures into marketing and eventully into political campaigning and what is tantamount to pychological warfare is enough to make your head spin. Coupled with big media and you end up with the "issues" and headlines all being things that aren't of consequence while those things that are of consequence fly under the radar without checks/balances and are from the consiousness of the power of the people.

Re: Who will win?
It's a pretty messed up system, eh? The thing is, your 401k value and losses are all imaginary in the first place. It's only a realized gain or loss when you go to cash out. So your retirement is dependent on what other people "think" the value of the stocks are and not actual intrinsic value. Not only that, once you take a financial instrument and the value of the instrument itself becomes a value.. ie monetized debt such as bonds, mortgage packages, oil futures, etc., you're talking about derivitives and start getting more and more into the world of monopoly and imaginary money. End result is you get screwed while someone else gets paid regarldess of whether they made bank for your 401k or drove it into the ground.Gutterflower wrote: I'm pretty disheartened right now. We're screwed either way. We have two at-risk candidates ... McCain = old, possible health risks; Obama = half black and Muslim, possible assassination.
So, with the possibility that McCain may croak or Obama becomes a martyr, let's take a look at the VP's who would then take office ... Palin = green as a gourd; Biden = as 'bout as far left as a person can get.
I can't cast a vote without my conscious being my guide, though. And, I don't think my conscious would let me vote for the party being represented by a person who is not of Christian faith. Time to put aside a vote for any hope of financial gain and stick to my beliefs and faith.
This would be more interesting had Obama picked Hillary as his running mate. I honestly think she has great ideas concerning health care and had she found herself taking over the reins, her hubby could have always guided her

Although, you make a valid point thoughout, I have to disagree with that statement right there. If you logon to your 401k site and check your status regularly, it's not "imaginary" to one day see you've lost 50 grand in one swoop. Nope, it's right there on the screen! And, it doesn't come back.JR97 wrote: The thing is, your 401k value and losses are all imaginary in the first place. It's only a realized gain or loss when you go to cash out.
Re: Who will win?
well, yeah. it's gone. You're right. And the shitty part about it is that your contributions are with real earned dollars plus any contributions your company makes. But my point is that the majority of the "money" out there in financial land is nothing but smoke and mirrors. So when the market takes a dump losing imaginary "value" you can end up losing real value based off of conributions.Doobie wrote:Although, you make a valid point thoughout, I have to disagree with that statement right there. That's one of the dumbest things I've heard in a long while.Doobie wrote:And, I don't think my conscious would let me vote for the party being represented by a person who is not of Christian faith.
