Would Jakes SDS-1 pickup in the middle have been reverse wound?

Looking into this, the only thing reverse polarity does is cancel hum when the 2 SDS-1s are played together. The tone of the 2 pickups should remain the same... just a heads up on what I'm finding!

Now, my second question is do I use a 250k potenitiometers or 500k on the SDS-1 and part b) was jakes tone control on his JB a 250k or 500k?

I'm getting there!

Don't know what jakes pot's were but a 250k pot will give more treble than a 500k. Judging by the fact jake angles them towards the neck tells me he was after more bottom end so I would guess his pots were 500k

a closer look @ his guitars show his strats typically didn't even have tone controls!

No need for a tone control in my opinion. You can control a good amount of tone from having a nice amp sound and using inbetween positions on necks. Although sometimes backing off the tone can just smoothen the sound up a bit.

Robin, how much you looking for the pup?

exactly! I agree... I've got a VHT D60 Head and it doesn't even need effects to kick your backside!

That is a VERY good observation, the neck position pick-up on my Vandenbergs are slanted that way also. On the one I have the sds in, it is relatively easy to get Jake's tone to a point (I can't replicate his hands, wish I could, lol!!!!) One thing I've noticed about the sds is it is very responsive to adjustment of the individual pole pieces, I think I even remember Jake saying that somewhere. Just a great sounding pick-up, and kudos to Jake for putting it in the neck position which it wasn't really designed for.

Hi there,

Regarding volume pots, I think you will find a 250k volume pot will give LESS treble than a 500k volume pot. The higher the value, the brighter the sound.

Agree, 500k is brighter - but you mean tone pots?

No, volume pots. A 500k volume pot is brighter sounding than a 250k volume pot. It will make your pickups brighter sounding when wound up full.
