ProgPower VII this year....

I may get to go to this one! Poets and Madman are you going this year?

Evergrey and Nevermore will be sweet headliners!

I have a room reserved in Atlanta, because I can't bring myself to cancelling it! I have to be honest, I'm not too fired up at all about this year's lineup. I'm not a fan of neither Evergrey nor Nevermore. I'd love to see Pyramaze and Vision Divine though. If you don't have any Vision Divine, then you need to check that band out.

I'm still kicking it around, but I'm leaning to not going.

8O How can you not be a fan of Evergrey? That is just wrong bro!

Vision Divine is great, still trying to hunt down the Pyramaze. Epica is good too, I have about three releases from them. I also did Thunderstone. They lean towards the Stratovarius sound to me.

I'm planning on giving Evergrey another shot, because I love bands like Brainstorm and Tad Morose. I associate Evergrey with the same type of dark, power metal.

Well, as you can see from my avatar and signature that the new Pyramaze isn't out yet, but you can get the debut from the following:

www.lasercd.com, www.cdinzane.com, or www.nightmarerecords.com

Heck, Lance King would probably autograph a copy for you if you bought it from Nightmare, because he owns that record label. Just send him an email and tell him that Brian from Johnson City directed you his way. He should know who I am, because I'm a member of his street team, plus I'm always bugging him with my emails! :-) Seriously, he's a very, very cool guy to deal with.

Interesting. I would not put Evergrey in the same vein as Tad Morose and Brainstrom. TM and BS have that classic metal sound that reminds me of Metal Church. I put Evergrey in a category similar to Queensryche. Even though they are dark, gothic type metal, they slow down quite a bit and do some very odd time signatures within thier arrangements.

When I think of a vocal comparison, TM and BS again lean toward that classic metal vibe. Very powerful singing with that whiskey tinted rasp in the vocals. Tom Englund pours a lot of emotion into his singing and although it is similar, I really can't say it is a classic metal vocal. There is something different about the way he sounds compared to Urban Breed.

Regardless, all three bands have some amazing talent. That is why it kind of rubs me the wrong way when people proclaim there is not any more good music these days. Hell, people were saying that in the 80's that grew up listening to the early 70's bands.

Well, I compared them loosly with BS and TM. Honestly, I'll look into sampling some of there stuff so that I can make more of an accurate judgement.

Are they more in the vein of Pagan's Mind then? PM is a killer band, IMO!

I'm assuming you've heard about Urban getting fired from Tad Morose. He's working with some other band, who's name has slipped my mind. I've heard people say the new stuff is pretty brutal though.

I agree with your comment about people saying there's not any good music anymore. People for the most part are comfortable with where they are as far as music taste is concerned or they want to be spoon fed. IMO, the internet has flung doors open for discovering new bands/music/talent though!

I agree. That surprises me that you know of Defyance! Sharp ear and eye! You need to check out his Pyramaze project then. Think Jag Panzer/Iced Earth metal with Lance on vox....great stuff!

Nevermore has pulled out as headliner at Prog Power. There should be a replacment band anounced on Monday. Oddly enough, the promoter of Prog Power was trying to get Dio to headline one night. How cool would that have been.

April 1st tickets go on sale, so I'm planning on being there since my boy Jorn is headlining!

There's a thread on the PP forum about what Jorn's setlist will be. I told Glenn that I didn't give a rat's ass if Jorn sang campfire songs as long as he was there! :-) \nn/

What's your thoughts about the pre-party for Thursday? Circle II Circle, Circus Maximus, and Theocracy! That's a kick ass lineup from where I'm standing!
