I finally decided on EVH :!:

While Randy was a great player I think he lacked some songwriting skills and stage-presence, and he sure didn't have that innovative thing going like EVH had.

Both are great. I give Randy the edge in skill, songs, and style and I give it to Eddie in influence. Overall I choose Randy. 8)

Their both Randall/Randy Rhoads & Eddie/Edward Van Halen are pretty extraodinary & "unique" Guitarists/Musicians in their own rights and are totally "different" from the other in their execution of Music Styles. So I really couldn't vote they both great! Peace.

hmmmmmmmmm interestin poll question in my opinion evh had tons of awesome licks But during a live solo he wanted too make noise as appossed too music and unfortunately i never saw randy play (i was 1 year too late .

so it is hard too speculate which one is better but if randy was around today, he would have been my pick

Considering that question is a bit disturbing to my mind, and probing for an answer proves, as one might expect when "probing" for anything, to be a pretty uncomfortable endeavor. Give me one second. Hands down and no holds-barred. . . Randy Rhoads.

Randy Rhoads was to short on the music scene. So I'll go with Eddie Van Halen.
Randy Rhoads never had a chance to make bad music. If EVH would have died after the first 2 Van Halen albums he would have been a legend to.

Hey all,
Randy's my all time favorite, but I borrowed all my brother's EVH until I could get my own copies. You can't really compare the two - apples & oranges. They certainly came from the fruitful LA guitar community of the late 70s.

I still remember playing 'Over The Mountain' and 'Diary' like they were the Gospel. I also remember learning 'Dirty Movies'. Very important pieces.

I think if Randy was alive today, his playing might still be taking on new areas. I think Eddie's more into different textures than trying to reinvent himself these days.

We are foprtunate to have been graced with both talents. Lately, a good Jake kick in the ass has been in order. CU all.
