drzepper, I really enjoyed reading your post. Thank you for taking the time as I'm not a player, just a fan, so it was really interesting to read the technical side. Jake E. Lee is hands down my favorite player, and I just loved Badlands. I found a promo vinyl recently at an old record store and can't wait to give it a turn. I cannot wait to see Jake in concert with his new band. I saw him with Ozzy TUS and with Badlands in '89/90, and he is truly the most exciting player I've ever seen.

Thanks again!

Have not checked in a minute. Yeah, forgot about Cry Of Love, cool band. Well, no. There will never be a band to compare to Badlands. When the thread started, it was based off of Badlands. Some of the stuff, I have came up with would be more comparable to Retraced, as was stated earlier. I hold Retraced in high standards along with Badlands. Its pure Jake. Pure, raw guitar tones.
In general that is what I am chasing here, in music to listen to. While I play both bass and guitar, I hold about 90% of the bass duties in the three piece band I play in. We switch up for a few tunes, but yes Greg is a badass on the bass. As can be heard throughout, but also be seen on quite a few of the Youtube videos. Especially a Rumblin Train video, I believe that is on there.
Greg Chaison another one that I would like to see back on the seen. Last I read, was him, Craig Goldy and Chas West had something cooking, but that was some time ago. So many great players, just sitting on the back burner.

I was going to mention Cry Of Love too, killer band and Audley is a guitar monster in his own right. I lived in Raleigh when they were starting out, of course they were already pretty well known locally from different bands, but they just killed live.

Funny I read this post today, I was on my walk & "Love Don't Mean a Thing" comes on my playlist. Had to remind myself to keep walking & not stop to dance, especially to Greg's bass-line. He's my #2 fave bassist - #1 is now, always has been & will always be Steve Harris (Iron Maiden). And, yes, Badlands was a unique band, too bad they couldn't have put out more music, but I cherish what they did give us.

Having said that....I've been getting into Clutch a lot lately, true, not a "Badlands-style" band, but they do have some heavy feel, and great driving music.

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!! I'm listening to Electric Mary now in another tab...and as soon as I post, I'm off to look for their CD's. Great band!

Hey, 3Dayphunk, I did go back and give the Rival Sons another listen. I am kind of liking what they do. I guess it would be there first release that I am liking the most.

Nice. Check out their EP...it's self titled...it was my introduction and got me into them. I have 3 of their 4 albums (including the EP). Here's a tune off the EP via youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YX2ku3oGRFg

WOW, thanks ladies and gentlemen for the ear-music Bayou/Funk journey: all of them unique and solid, the ones that reminded me of a Classic BADLANDS groove were the bands Electric Mary and Rival Sons particularly RIVAL SONS. Saw them on Jimmy Kimmel Show/Concert series stage. They were way out there spectacular, have a rich Rock N Roller Bayou sound. Like the lead Front-man powerful presence it reminded & his singing style is uncanny like Front-man Ray Gillen of BADLANDS and their music-groove certainly have influence from Jake E. Lee's BADLANDS. Awesome, find. Thanks!!

Another new 70's revival band, Scorpion Child. Kind of Zeppelin meets Black Crowes. Enjoy.

This has been a good thread, in turning me on to some great music. My list, so far that I have compiled out of this is:

King Karma
Voodooland
Rival Sons
Manic Eden

Although, I have known about Cry Of Love I will throw them in there as well. Great band.

I have a new one to add. Just got a cd in the mail today and it is right up there.

Flood The Engine
http://www.floodtheengine.com/

This is Jimmy Kunes of Cactus/Savoy Brown and Bill Leverty of Firehouse. I met Bill at a casino one night a few years ago, where Firehouse played and he hooked up with a few of his solo efforts and this guy can play. Check it out.

I just wanted to note, that I seen Rival Sons live at DTE in Auburn Hills, Michigan opening for Sammy Hagar and they were bad ass. Sounded great live.

Agreed, I've enjoyed this thread and glad we've been keeping it alive.

I just gave a quick listen to Scorpion Child and am digging it...might try one of their albums.

Voodooland is one I want to buy too.

Nice to hear Rival Sons was good live. Opening for Sammy must have been a good concert, macheted01! I have all their albums now that I recently got their latest.

Just reading this and Pandora is playing Kings Highway by Scorpion Child. I think I'm going to buy this too. I'm really liking everything I've heard on this LP so far.
