Iommi vs Page

Postby harddriver » Thu Apr 13, 2006 1:33 pm

I for one would say Iommi simply because of his ability to be heavy, melodic and Classical and play each style like he created it. This has never gotten the credit he deserved for anything other than heavy riffs which he is a master at. But with songs like Spiral Architect and Embroyo just to name a few he showcases just about every musical style with relative ease and perfection. Anyway thats just my opinion so feel free to weigh in. P.S. I love Page as well i just prefer Iomi 8)

This is difficult to answer to for one although I know both Master Musicians Tony Iommi (Black Sabbath & Iommi fame) and Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin fame) are heavy duty music Icons that are Pioneers and paved the way for "many" amazing talented musicians: I don't own any Black Sabbath or Led Zeppelin Master Classic albums/Cd's material. I know that's really really really bad, shame on me...-but I'm very familiar with their Classic 8O songs Pyronoid, Iron Man etc.,. (BS), Stairway to Heaven etc.,. (LZ), for I heard them playd on the Radio alot! I must say I love IOMMI "Fused" with Glenn Hughes and it's a killer! Iommi is a bad ass groove Master and he kind of scares me too...-Jimmy Page has a quieter sweeter face & is a bad ass groove Master too. Who's better at his music Guitar crafts Iommie or Page well "both" are Masters so it's a tie! 8)

Jimmy Page....listen to Houses of the Holy.....the "Rain Song".."The Song Remains the Same" and "Over the Hills and Far Away" are absolutely 'BRILLIANT'. Not only for the composition, but for the arrangements and production as well.

Tony's in my top 5 though!

PAGE, although I like Iommi, too.

Listen to something like TEN YEARS GONE...I couldn't hear Iommi playing a more intricate piece like that (and I'm no musician, okay), but I could hear Page playing just about everything done by Iommi. I respect and admire both for their contributions to guitar playing and music in general, because they've been the inspiration for countless others. But you can't really compare them to each other because it IS apples and oranges. 8)

page dominates iommi hands down, no contest. I don't see how iommi plays 'classical' as if he invented it, i've never heard anything remotely classical come from black sabbath

C.C. Deville! Lol jk people don't have a stroke. I agree with the apples and oranges statemet, I like both, IMO Iommi influenced more of the metal guys and Page more of the hard rock people. Like I said, just my opinion.
