Heart on Decades Live

Postby Gutterflower » Thu May 04, 2006 2:22 pm

Heart ~ Decades Rock Live premiere's on VH1 Classics on Friday May 5th...

The all-star show, featuring Heart and an unusually eclectic group of guests (everyone from "American Idol" star Carrie Underwood to a new version of the re-united Alice in Chains), was taped for broadcast on the VH1 Classic channel, as part of its "Decades Rock Live" series.

Heart lead vocalist Ann Wilson, who is Nancy's sister (and the only person, besides Nancy, who has been in the band from the start), can still sing with the raw power and strutting theatricality of a young Robert Plant. This isn't a random comparison -- Heart covered four songs by Plant's former band, Led Zeppelin, Friday, and they were all impressive.

In alternating segments, Heart played on its own, and with guests. Underwood crooned the power ballad "Alone," and singer-songwriter Rufus Wainwright duetted with Ann Wilson on the introspective "Dog & Butterfly, while country star Gretchen Wilson, in a pre-taped segment, joined the band for the sassy rocker "Even It Up." Navarro added burly guitar riffs to songs like "Bebe Le Strange," "Straight On" and "Crazy On You." Alice in Chains -- who, like Heart, hails from Seattle -- played its own "Rooster," with Ann Wilson handling some of the vocals.

Other special guests performers included Duff Mc Kagan (Velvet Revolver) and Phillip H. Anselmo (Down/Pantera)

Tune it and catch this AMAZING event!!

Ann Wilson singing Rooster, that should be good.

Speaking of Ann, I was watching Heart Alive in Seattle when my daughter came tromping into the room. She paused in front of the TV before realizing it was Heart and said, "woah, for a second there I thought that was Roseanne Barr singing". That's all I have to say about that !!!

lol Poor Ann. I saw a special on Discovery about her-she had that gastric bypass surgery! none of that weight gain affected her voice, at least.

I have Alive in Seattle-great dvd. My favorite is still Mistral Wind. What a killer live song, and they rarely do it.

Heart is awesome and that's all there is to it! I like all eras of this band. IMO, there's not too many people that can out sing Ann Wilson, regardless of how she looks!

As for their looks, I would've gladly been a male groupie of theirs back in the 70s and early 80s! They could've used and abused me all they wanted!

It's surprising Phil Anselmo made an appearance. After Dimebag was shot (one of the worst days in rock history), Phil was deeply depressed and questioned whether he would continue in music.
I heard 'Purple Haze' on the radio and ...... it made the hairs on the back of my neck stood up

I was surprised to read that Phil would be there. That will make it even more interesting. It was filmed in Atlantic City-I should've gone, it's only a 3 hour drive. There's supposedly going to be another Decades Live in August with a Velvet Revolver appearance.

Dimebag's murder was a horrible tragedy

The whole concert was incredible! This month on VH1 and VH1 Classic, it's "Metal Month", and I am loving it!!!! They've shown a "Behind the Music" on Ratt and Pantera this month.

Sad to chronicle Ratt, and Robin Crosby's death from HEROIN, not HIV/AIDS, even though that is what he was diagnosed with. He stated in the show, interviewed in 1999, that he thought he acquired HIV from a dirty needle. Sad.

Pantera was even more depressing to watch. The ending of the segment, with the coverage of Diamond's shooting, shows the camcorder filming as it happens on stage. Not Diamond's shooting, but the aftermath. Very Sad. And Phil Alselmo's commentary, well, sure he's regretful. But there was some smack spoken by him to a British Mag about Diamond. Explains his depression and questioning not playing ever again. It'd be interesting to see him with Alice in Chains. He supposedly has some musical projects going on. Not a good fit with AIC, IMO.
