Guitarists, list your 5 main influences.

Post by MetalHead »

I guess I'll go first ;)

in no particular order ...

Jake E Lee - Bluesy and flashy with tons of stage presence ... and I love that RAW guitartone of his
Zakk Wylde - Heavy as hell and possibly one of the last guitarheroes alive :(
Marty Friedman - Although he has a weird picking-technique, he brings out the most beatiful and exotic melodies, and with practically no effects. 8O
George Lynch - When I first heard Dokkens Beast from the east I was hooked. George plays beautifully.
Yngwie Malmsteen - He's superfast and not so fat anymore. Kudos to Yngwie for the massive weight-loss. Got me hooked on classical music.

and the outsider ... who'll fit in there among the greats one day is ...

Japanese band Loudness super-guitarist Akira Takasaki :!:
A combination of the ones above(except maybe Marty Friedman).
He sports one of the coolest guitarshapes as well

Here we go, in no particular order:

Eddie Van Halen: he revolutionnized guitar playing AND building and sound in so many ways, amazing rythms and solos, great songwriter, in my opinion a true genius.

Jimi Hendrix: same as Eddie, a precursor an other genius, I put Eddie first but in a way, he paved the way for Eddie. Same skills as above too.

Tommy Bolin: so versatile, I like his tone and use of effects like the Echoplex, he was so underrated but an other great songwriter who wrote such great songs with Deep Purple, the James Gang and as a solo act, too many to mentions.

Jake E Lee: quite obviously, I just love his Badlands live tone, just unbelievable, I'd say even better sound than Eddie in my opinion. I love his way to simulate Floyd Rose tricks, his blues runs and riffs. An other underrated guitarist.

Zakk Wylde: although I'm not so crazy about his playing as I used to be, he inspired me with his super fast pentatonic runs, great riffs, and fantastic voice.

My outsiders: Slash and Kirk Hammet because they're the reason why I picked up a guitar in the first place. I love Kirk no matter what people say about him and Slash is just so R'n'R and he's got the look too.

Oh, I do love BLS up to The Blessed Hellride, I just got tired from the Hangover album but Mafia is a cool album though.

Zakk has gotten boring with his attitude and his pentatonic scale all
over his songs :(

No, But i did mention the concept to my metal shop guy (the guy that fabricates the pedal enclosures). He said to do a box like that it would cost close to $18.00 apeice!!! And that's if I ordered 300 pcs!

At this point it'd be a little too expensive to build a pedal like that.

Nice idea though! :D

You're not making delaypedals are you ? :)

and I've already bought a wah-pedal :D

I have plans to bring out a delay, chorus and a phaser in 2006.

First will be phase. I'm still deciding whether delay or chorus will be next.

This is my influences from the start of my guitar adventure.

James Hetfield- I always thought he was so kickass when I first saw him play guitar when I started playing.

Kirk Hammet- He's good to some extent.

Slash- I saw him play in front of my eyes in a Velvet Revolver concert. I even shouted "WE LOVE YOU SLASH" (along with my buddy) from the audiences and he looked at me and smiled. :P He's a good bluesy and rock type of soloist.

Zakk Wylde- He's so talented. He even has his own pentatonic scale and sound. He was my influence throughout the summer of 2005.

Jake E. Lee- Oh my god, his playing with Ozzy amazed me, especially his solo. I personally liked Jake's solo than Zakk's. He's so full of energy in the Ultimate Sin tour.
