Guitar fingerboard choice
Just doing a survey. What neck (fingerboard) do you prefer? Rosewood, is the most common and cheaper. Maple necks I think has the best feel to them like ebony. Ebony is expensive on elecric guitar necks and I think they are more common on acoutics. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

I would like to try a Koa neck with a Pau Ferro fretboard

Re: Guitar fingerboard choice
I have always prefered a Maple neck.
Re: Guitar fingerboard choice
I like them all, but my number one choice is a nice crazy birdseye of flame maple. Next is Ebony, then rosewood. I'd like to try something different some day like Cocobolo before it's outlawed due to safety reasons. (inhaling the dust while machining or sanding has been known to produce cancer)
Re: Guitar fingerboard choice
how about mahogany neck and oak fretboard ?

I personally prefer ebony...don't like the grain on rosewood and don't like the finish on maple.
Re: Guitar fingerboard choice
but maple has the neat function that it shows where
you've played on it
you've played on it

I use gunstock oil on maple, just like Charvel and Jackson works great.Deansolo wrote:I personally prefer ebony...don't like the grain on rosewood and don't like the finish on maple.

I've never seen an oak fretboard, but it might be interesting. Oak should be close to the resonance you get from maple. Mahogany would be warm sounding as used with a Les Paul. It would be an interesting combination to say the least.MetalHead wrote:how about mahogany neck and oak fretboard ?
Re: Guitar fingerboard choice
Well isnt rosewood pretty much the standard, plus fingerboards are all the same to me if they are sanded properly, the neck is more important to me than the fingerboard, and I have taken a very much sexy liking to the 60's Les Paul neck.
I HATE STRAT necks.... ewwwwwwwww
